The Q&A Archives: Pruning Fern

Question: Can you prune a tasmanian tree fern? Mine were planted in small areas, I didn't know how big they were going to get.
Your expertise is appreciated. Thanks.

Answer: Your tree fern will eventually develop a strong stem and grow upwards, which may give you a little more room in your garden. Hope you can wait for it to grow up a little - the ferns are required for photosynthesis and growth. As they age, the older ferns will die back and that's when they should be removed from the plant.
