Poppies provide bright spring and summer color so it's best to plant them early in the season. That way you can enjoy their blooms for the longest possible period of time. Poppies grow best in full sunshine in ordinary, well-draining soil. Feed lightly during the first growth season to help your poppies become established. After they've been in the ground for a while, they'll need little care except for periodic watering during the summer months.
