I have a Vitex chaste tree. It bloomed this year and I was told it would not bloom again and to cut the blooms to encourage growth. I now find out that it will bloom all summer. Have I hurt the tree and will it bloom again? Also, when do I prune it?. It does not have a good shape. It is from your nursery.

Thanks for the info.

As you've learned, Vitex trees will bloom all summer long. Pruning may delay, but shouldn't completely stop the blooming process since new blooms are produced at the tips of the stems. Cutting your Vitex back should encourage the growth of additional stems, which should result in additional blooms. You can prune and reshape your Vitex at anytime (but you may sacrifice blooms!) The best approach is to wait until late winter or early spring, then prune to shape before new growth begins.
