| I am planning a hedge that will be about 90' long and 5' high. It could generally be considered a full-sun area, in zone 9b. I like the way orange jessamine looks (and it's fragrance), so I would really like to plant this. Unfortunately, there seems to be much confusion as to which plant is the right one, as they both seem to be called orange jessamine. What are the real differences between Murraya Paniculata and Murraya Exotica?? |
| Murraya paniculata is the faster growing orange jessamine, and is often used as a hedging plant. It will reach 6-15' tall and wide. There's a dwarf variety, sometimes sold as M. exotica. This plant is slower growing, more upright, and more compact than the species. It reaches about 6' in height and 4' in width. It's leaves are a lighter shade of green and have smaller, stiffer leaflets. If it's a fast-growing, tall hedge you desire, choose M. paniculata. |
