The Q&A Archives: Matijila Poppy

Question: Can it be propagated?

Answer: Romneya coulteri, the Matilija poppy, is a shrubby perennial and is easily propagated by digging up rooted suckers from the spreading root system. Seeds are difficult to germiniate, but you if you're adventuresome, you can collect them when they're ripe, mix them with potting soil in a foil-lined flat and burn pine needles on top of the flat for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, water the potting soil and hope for the best!
