I have two Dwarf Alberta Spruces I'd like to move just a few feet. They are about 2' tall and I planted them 2 yrs ago. What is the best time of the year to move them? |
If you wait until winter, when weather is consistently cool and rainfall abundant in your region, you'll cause less stress to your spruces when you move them. They will continue to grow year around in your mild climate, but growth will slow during December and January. Prepare the planting holes before digging the plants up, then dig generously around the spruces, trying not to damage too many roots as you unearth them. Plant at the same level they were growing before, and be sure to water them in after replanting, to help the roots settle into the soil. Best wishes with your landscape! |
