The Q&A Archives: Brown Tips On Hostas

Question: One of my hostas develops brown tips on leaves in late summer. What is wrong?

Answer: It's hard to say for sure. Too much or too little water can cause leaf browning -- these are the most common causes. Too much sun might affect the plants, though it usually causes more of an overall bleaching. Anything that could damage the roots, such as fertilizing with a too-concentrated solution of soluble fertilizer, could cause leaf margins to brown too.
