The Q&A Archives: Russian Sage As An Ingestible Herb

Question: A friend of ours brought us a Russian Sage and said we could grow it as an herb. I don't see anything that indicates we can eat this or cook with it. Is it used for either purpose or only as a shrub?

Answer: Russian Sage is the common name for Perovskia, a woody ornamental with grayish white stems and gray-green foliage. It's valued for the sprays of lavender-blue flowers it produces. It is not a true sage and is not edible, so I wouldn't recommend cooking with it or eating it raw!
