Would a Musa basjoo plant thrive in our area in a open-air atrium? Soil conditions primarily clay based, but does have a sprinkler system. |
Musa basjoo is the hardiest of all banana plants and should survive in an open-air atrium, even in your cold and snowy winter weather. This plant will regenerate new growth from the roots if the top is killed by frost - provided the rootmass is protected from freezing. You can protect the roots by covering the soil with some insulating mulch, or planting the musa in a part of the atrium where snow does not fall onto the soil. Best wishes with your landscape! |
