| I have a tree in my backyard that I cannot identify. It does not have a single trunk, but many small runks/branches coming from the ground. It's probably 8 or 9 years old and is about 25 feet tall. It's deciduous and at this time of year it has buds on it that look similar to a pussy willow, except the fuzzy white part eventually opens and tiny yellow ends pop out. These are starting to fall off the tree now and then all the leaves will appear. Can you tell me what type of tree or shrub this might be. Thanks in advance for your help, Cathy |
| If the plant has an angular or zig-zag branching pattern and the flowers consist of crinkled petals that resemble shredded coconut or mop heads, then I think your plant is Hamamelis, otherwise known as witch hazel. This plant is often used in landscapes to provide winter interest - both with the unusual branching habit and the late-winter, early-spring blooms. Enjoy! |
