| Although Oxydendrum is native to the eastern U. S. because it more frequently planted in areas with cool summers and well-defined winters, it is perfectly adaptable to your mild winter climate. Provide full sunshine and well draining soils, and avoid planting as a lawn tree. (It doesn't compete well with the roots of other plants and does not want to be watered as frequently as you'd water your lawn.) Stewartia prefers acidic soil and will grow in your landscape if you amend the soil with aged compost or peat moss to lower the soil pH. It grows in full sunshine to partial shade and produces summer flowers. Best wishes with your landscape! |
