| I am very interested in planting Queen palms in my new home in San Ramon, Ca. The HOA does not allow trees which grow over 40 feet. They are using the Sunset's Western Garden book as their reference book. This book says the Queen grows 40-50 feet in height. However, the local experts are telling me that the Queen does not grow much over 20 feet in this area. If this is true, is there documantation which I can use to support this claim? |
| In its native Brazil, the Queen Palm can grow 50' tall and 20-25' wide. However, most Queen Palms will remain smaller in landscape settings. The ultimate size yours may reach will depend upon growing conditions - soil type, frequency of water application and, of course, whether or not you fertilize. If there's a real concern, you might consider growing Rhapis (Lady Palm; 5'-12' tall and wide), or Sabal palmetto (Cabbage Palm; 20' tall, 10' wide). Hope this information is helpful! |
