I planted wild bamboo (straight canes, 15 ft.)a couple of years ago. Recently neighborhood children have been jumping on them and breaking or uprooting the stalks. My question, I was thinking that I could coat the stalks with vasoline to keep the kids from gripping the stalks enough to pull them down. Short of electrocuting (ha-ha low voltage dog barrier wire) the children or wrapping the bamboo with razor wire, do you have any ideas and would a petroleum jelly harm my beautiful yet irresistable bamboo. I purchased my bamboo from a local nursery (North Haven), who doesn't have advice about the petroleum jelly issue. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Janis Proctor |
