I m looking for a tree that will grow in complete shade in zone 9. It needs to be non-invasive as it will be planted in a narrow path between a walk and the house. Also, I would like it to be tall and narrow in shape. Thank you for the help! |
Only a few trees will grow in complete shade, and most of those have widely spaced branches and a wide canopy. However, you can train Laurus nobillis (sweet bay) into a tall, narrow tree shape. Another possibility is a small palm (Chamaedorea elegans or Rhapis humilis, the slender lady palm). These palm trees adapt well to growing in containers and won't mind being planted in a narrow site such as you describe. Best wishes with your garden! |
