| Here are two suggestions for ou: Pistachia chinensis (Chinese Pistache) Native to central and western China, it is a small, oval-shaped, deciduous tree growing 30 to 35' in height and 25 to 35' in width. Its lustrous, dark green, pinnately compound leaves become a fiery, luminescent orange to orange-red in autumn. Flowers and fruits are small and insignificant from an ornamental standpoint. The tree is exceptionally drought- and pest-resistant, requiring full sun and well-drained soil for optimum growth. Chinese pistache is known for its open canopy, which produces a light, filtered shade, making it perfect to garden beneath. Acer triflorum (Three-Flower Maple) A native of northern China and Korea, this small deciduous tree will attain 20 to 30' in height with an equal spread. Flowers appear in early May and are relatively insignificant from an ornamental standpoint. Summer leaves are a medium green, turning spectacular shades of crimson each October. The light gray-beige, peeling bark is ornamental in the winter landscape. Compared to the related paperbark maple (A. griseum), this maple is hardier and grows much faster. Give it full sun to moderate shade and well-drained soil. Hope one of these trees appeals to you! |
