Neolitsea sericea, the Japanese Silver Tree, is related to the camphor tree and is a fast-growing native of Japan. It is broadly cone shaped with aromatic foliage. It grows in full sun to light shade, reaching 35-40' in height and 25-40' in width at maturity. The new leaves are bronze, drooping, and covered with silky white hairs; mature leaves are dark green with velvety white undersides. The tiny, inconspicuous flowers are followed by red fruits. This tree will grow well in your gardening region, when planted in well-draining soil and watered regularly during the growing season.
