I recently heard about a new Lilac hybrid created specifically for California (Southern) climate. Do you have any idea what this is or could be? Thank you. Larry |
Lilacs typically require a pronounced winter chill in order to produce a multitude of fragrant spring flowers. The lilacs you're hearing about are called Descanso Hybrids, and they were developed for warm winter climates such as yours in southern California. Descanso hybrids set flowers regardless of warm winter temperatures. Monrovia carries two of the Descanso hybrids. Look for Syringa vulgaris 'Monore', the Blue Skies lilac, or 'Lavender Lady'. You'll be happy with the performance of both! |
