Is it possible to purchase a Mexican fan palm as either 'male' or 'female'? I understand that its common to have both male and female on the same plant, but wondering if its possible to avoid cleaning up the seed pods.
Thanks,
Janet

There is no gender distinction with Mexican fan palms. Unlike the dioecious hollies, with separate male and female plants, palm trees are monoecious, producing both male and female flowers on the same plant. The only way to avoid the seed pods is to remove the inflorescence (flower clusters) before they set seeds.

Best wishes with your landscape!
