Dawn redwoods are native to the coast ranges of California and Oregon where they thrive on the moisture provided by foggy conditions. Although the elevation near Sedona would give some respite from hot, dry summer weather, the humidity is too low for a dawn redwood to thrive. There are several conifers native to the area. Perhaps one of these would make an acceptable substitute for dawn redwood.

Best wishes with your landscape!
