Helleborus orientalis, the Lenten Rose, is not bothered by deer. As a matter of fact, they stay away from it. This plant is considered toxic only if large quantities are eaten; symptoms include burning of mouth and throat, salivation, vomiting, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, nervous symptoms, depression.
