The Q&A Archives: yellow jackets

Question: I live in GA. is there a type of plant or foliage I can plant to discourage the Yellow Jackets from coming around my pool?

Answer: Cesar,

I know of no such plant. It is difficult to discourage those insects from coming to the pool as they need a source of water. Placing some bird baths a distance away may help to draw them to another water source but this is just an idea and may or may not work.

There are traps for true yellow jackets (not the paper wasps that build nests under the eaves) which are for sale in some areas. If you feel you have the true yellow jackets (they are about 2/3 the size of the standard paper wasps) check with your local Home Depot to see if they carry such traps.
