Yes in some cases. For example you can plant clumping groundcovers of different types in the same area. This might include liriope, mondo and Aztec grass. However running groundcovers like ivy or Asian jasmine for example will tend to run over other things, including each other. The expection would be if you provided some type of wood, metal or rock edging between them and then kept them trimmed back to the desired border you have in mind.
