The Q&A Archives: Flowers and Plants for sun and shade

Question: I just built a house and my yard is a mess. I would like to plant some pretty colorful flowers and plants but the problem is the section that set aside for it partof it is shade and the other sun.Can you give me a blend of flowers that would look good that can be in the sunlight or shade?

Answer: Kim,

That is a challenge. I can recommend some plants but they may perform differently in sun vs. shade. I would consider trailing nicotiana, annual salvia, verbena, 'Burgundy Sun' coleus, iris, lantana, purple coneflower, and Shasta daisy.
