The Q&A Archives: Shade Plants

Question: I live on the west coast of fla.By Tampa my house faces North and Im looking for a plant that flowers and will take full shade. Thank You.

Answer: John,

Shade and flowers are a tough combination. Some shrub options include hydrangeas, virginia sweetspire and azaleas. All these will need several inches of peat moss or compost mixed in to the planting bed prior to planting. For annuals try impatiens, begonia, torenia (wishbone flower), and caladiums (not blooms but colorful foliage).
