The Q&A Archives: blueberry field

Question: Hoe to rejuvinate a natural blueberry field in VT that has been mowed.

Answer: Based on your question I am not sure if you are trying to re-establish the blueberries or turn it into lawn. Since blueberries and lawn have very differnet soil requirements, I would suggest you work with your county extension to run some soil tests and then work from there. If you want to establish a working blueberry crop you will need to rejuvenate or replace the bushes and possibly add organic matter or nutrients to the soil as well. For lawn, you would most likely need to adjust the pH a bit toward neutral, possibly add organic matter, and also develop an ongoing maintenance program. Your county extension should be able to advise you on either of these projects. Have fun with your field!
