| I have a lawn which is heavily compacted, weeds, barespots, moss, some zoysia grass, and various other problems. I've recently deeply raked the lawn to remove the layered debris from winter. I've also used a weed & feed spray to kill the weeds. I'm assuming I need to aerate due to the compacted soil, fertilize, seed, etc., but where do I start? Where do I go? And I know...it never ends. | I would suggest you start by running some basic soil tests to check pH and fertility levels as well as the amount of organic matter in your soil. You would then add amendments based on the test results rather than by just guessing. Soil preparation can usually make the difference between success and repeated failures. Your county extension should be able to help you with the tests and interpreting the results, recommend the best types of grass seed and seeding procedures plus help you develop an ongoing maintenance program.
