| Your new blossom bags are fun ways to create hanging flower baskets without the basket. They are designed to hang - from a fence post, trellis, even a front door, because they're flat on the backside. To use your blossom bags, fill them with moistened potting soil, lay them down on a flat surface, and work the roots of small plants into the slits of the bag. Finish up by placing a plant or two in the top opening so they will cascade down over the front and sides of the bag. Then water everything thoroughly before hanging up your bag. Be careful, it will be heavy! To keep your plants happy, water as often as necessary to keep the soil moist. Water slowly from the top and the water will trickle down to the bottom of the bag and then flow out the drainage holes. Choose trailing plants according to the amount of sunshine your blossom bag will receive. Bacopa, million-bells, dwarf morning glory, sweet alyssum and creeping campanula are good choices for sunny sites; Lobelia, pansy, impatiens, dead nettle and monkey flower are all good choices for shady sites. Just keep your blossom bag watered and fertilize every 2-3 weeks with a half-strength dilution of liquid fertilizer and your plants should thrive. Enjoy! |
