Afternoon sun tends to be intense and very hot so you need sunlovers that also take well to heat. Your basket also needs to be as large as possible to provide ample room and some insulation for the roots, if you can use a trailing plant to help shade the side of the container that would also be helpful. You will also need to water to keep the soil evenly moist for best results. Some plants to try might include calibrachoa, trailing lantana, flowering vinca, sun coleus, or black eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia). Your local professional nursery staff should also have suggestions based on a better understanding of your design goals. Enjoy your flowers this summer!
