Hi, I want to prepare a healthy soil for planting and maintaining my bulbs and perennials. What do I need. |
Sharon, Your best amendment is compost. Spread 4 inches deep and rototill in as deeply as you can. Build up raised planting beds with additions of a commercial mix of topsoil and compost (typically sold by the cubic yard) if you need more soil to improve drainage in a low area. Have your soil tested and follow recommendations for amendments to add prior to rototilling it again. Your County Extension Office can assist you with having your soil tested and interpreting the results. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
