Your ornamental almond tree will adapt to most soil types, from average to poor, providing they drain well. If you're concerned about poor drainage, you can amend a large planting area with organic matter prior to planting your tree. Don't just amend the planting hole or the roots will stay in the amended soil instead of venturing out into native soil. By amending a large area, you'll encourage the roots to spread out into a large area, which will help anchor your tree. Best wishes with your flowering almond!
