A pre-emergent herbicide applied in early spring prior to seed germination is the recommended method for annual weeds such as foxtail. Pull plants that have germinated before they set seed. Maintaining a healthy lawn is the best defense against weeds over the long term, as they can't gain a toehold in a thick vigorous turf.
