Wrapping lights around the trunks or branches of your trees won't hurt them, as long as they're not wrapped so tightly that they are digging into the bark. The only other consideration is the possibility of the wires trapping excess moisture or debris which can hold moisture against the bark and cause rot. Why not check your trees to make sure the bark beneath the lights and wires is sound? If so, there's no reason to remove them; if not, you might want to readjust the wiring.
