Vincent, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help. Gardenias love a soil that is well drained but moist and slightly acidic. Mix lots of peat or composted pine bark into the soil prior to planting and build up a raised planting bed area if the area is low and prone to staying wet after a rain. Don't plant the camellia too deep, certainly not any lower than it was growing in the container. Fertilzize lightly with a soluble product for acid loving plants such as Miracid for the first few months then switch to a granular product for azaleas and camellias following the label rate. You can also use cottonseed meal at a rate of one cup worked into the soil surface in an area extending two feet out from the plant in all directions. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
