When is it alright to plant strawberry plants in Pennsylvania { Pittsburgh} |
Strawberry plants are very cold tolerant and can be planted early. Bare root plants can be set out as soon as the soil can be worked and the most bitter cold is past, their flowers are usually removed at planting so frost is not a problem. This allows them to wake up naturally with the season. Container plants that have been hardened can be planted very early as well. If the plants are blooming you will need to protect the blooms from frost if you want a berry crop this spring. I hope this helps. |
