my lawn was never really mantained,Im trying to get it to look green and full I have a lot of brown dried out looking grass spots and a lot of patchy spot. I have areas with grass and spots with no grass at all.The soil on the areas that have no grass seems to be very hard what can I do to have a green and full looking lawn

Dig down 6"-8" and incorporate some organic matter to help facilitate drainage and improve the soil texture. Then rake the area smooth and broadcast grass seed. Cover the seed with a little peatmoss to keep moisture from evaporating too quickly, and water daily to keep the seedbed moist. All this effort should result in happy, healthy grasses, without a bare spot in sight!
