Is it best to fertilize the lawn and water it afterwards, or not water the lawn after fertilizer has been applied?

Always read and follow the label instructions. It is a good idea to apply fertilizer right before a rain so it can be washed down through the grass to the soil. That way it will begin to dissolve sooner and less of it will be blown away or tracked into your house by people or pets, and etc. If there is not rain in the forecast you could water it in, but spring is usually a rainy time.
