Hello, I would like to find out what type of grass to plant in Indiana. Our yard is in a new subdivision and there are lots of rocks in our back yard. There are alot of bare spots throughout our yard, for no reason. I would also like to find out if it is good or bad to plant grass seed before a hard rain. We have had like 7 days of off and on rain, however, tomorrow it is really suppose to rain, would it be better to wait until after the hard rain?? Thank you,

I'd wait to plant after a hard rain, as it might wash away the seed. A gentle rain would provide a good soaking for the soil, though, and be okay. After the hard rain, there will be a good "water bank" in the soil to help the young grass get a good start. As for the best varieties for your area, I suggest you contact your County Cooperative Extension office. They will know the best varieties and their performance characteristics in your growing conditions. They are at 9245 N. Meridiana St. Indianapolis, 317-253-0871. Good luck!
