A half-whiskey barrel should provide plenty of room for root growth for your weeping pussy willow. I'd drill some drainage holes in the bottom of the container and raise it up off the ground by setting it on a couple of bricks. This will help with drainage and also keep the bottom of the whiskey barrel from rotting because of constant contact with the earth. Fill the barrel with a half and half mixture of garden soil and potting soil. Garden soil will add weight so your pussy willow won't topple over in a wind storm; potting soil will aerate, lighten, and help the garden soil drain well. Be sure to water your plant as often as necessary to keep the soil moist but not soggy wet. Pussy willows like moist soil and plants in containers usually need to be watered more frequently than the same plants grown in the ground. After a little trial and error you'll be able to judge how often you'll need to water your plant.

Enjoy!
