| I'll be receiving a couple of maple seedlings and a cardboard palm. What kind potting mix or soil should i use for them? I plan to keep the palm indoor and maple outdoor. Thanks |
| I'd use regular potting soil for the indoor palm. The maples are tolerant of most types of soil and can be planted directly in the native soil in your yard. If your soil does not drain well, you can amend a large planting area (not just the planting hole) with some organic matter to help things along. I simply spread a 3-4" layer of compost or shredded leaves over the top of the planting bed and dig it in to a depth of 6-8". Then dig the planting hole, install the tree, and refill the hole. Be sure to water your maple trees deeply once each week during the growing season. Best wishes with your new trees! |
