| i have an idea that may work either for or greatly against me.i am reseading a bare patch on my lawn and i have lightly covered it with a clear plastic film about 1 inch off the ground to stop evaporation as it is not quite very hot out is ther a risk of burning the grass or will it help it grow faster acting like a mini greenhouse ,any advice please a first time gardner j.:) |
| Although it would seem like a good idea to help keep the humidity high, actually the plastic will probably cause excessive heat build up, raising the soil temperature, intensifying the heat and burning the tender new grass. One thing you can try is making sure the seed is in good contact with the soil by rolling it or tamping it, then water it to moisten, then cover it with a light layer of straw to help shade the soil and keep it cool and more evenly moist. You will still need to water regularly to keep it damp (not sopping wet) but the straw will help on those hot and breezy days. The grass will grow up through the straw so you don't have to worry about removing it later. Good luck with the grass patching! |
