The Q&A Archives: Installing window boxes

Question: There are a few houses in my neighborhood displaying beautiful window boxes mounted outside of the second story windows. How do they do that? How do you install these boxes?

Answer: There are several different ways to install a window box but often they are on sturdy brackets. They need to be very strong because a window box of wet soil can be extremely heavy. You might want to consult with a contractor as to how best to design and install yours, each house can pose a different type of situation. Or, if the houses and windows are similar, perhaps your neighbors would share with you specifically how it was done. Good luck with your project!
