I recently bought a white Sapote ( Suebelle from La Verne Nursery ) from Home Depot, Milpitas. However the soil was really dry and when I tried to plant in ground. Half of the pot of soil crumbles and the roots broke off. I still planted it in. I put some citrus fertilizer, hoping the feed will make the tree less stress :( Question : do you think I have already lost my tree? Or it can survive? Any steps that I should take to enhance the chance it live? How frequent the watering be? Thanks |
White Sapote has a reputation for having vigorous, almost invasive roots so I think your plant has a good chance of surviving, even though some of the roots were damaged when you planted it. Keep it well watered (deeply soak the roots once each week) and don't fertilize again this season. Next spring you can fertilize again. Best wishes with your White Sapote! |
