The Q&A Archives: Ugly, Fat, Soft, Sucking bugs

Question: Ihave been invaded by lines of 1/2-3/4, soft-bodied, FAT, white bugs on the branches of my shrubs. They are attached and sucking. I have used garden oil to try and suffocate them, and I have tried the hard hose spray to knock them off.
They are definitely from outer space!! HELP!

Answer: Beaty,

Sorry but I can't give a positive identification based on that description. It sounds like scale or mealybugs but I can't be sure. I suggest you take a sample of the insects to your County Extension Office for identification, and appropriate control recommendations.
