| The sod we layed 8/2004 has brown, straw looking grass, almost golden. The grass pulls away easily, and there is no new growth in this area. Last year we attempted to plant seeds in this area and it looked good for a while, but this season the above description is what we have now. Please advise. Question: Should we cut away the dead grass, and patch the area with new sod? |
| You could try that, but until you know for sure why the original sod and then seed failed, you risk it failing again. I would suggest you consult with your county extension to try to figure out why the grass is dying in that area. There may be a problem with the soil that needs to be corrected before grass can grow and stay healthy there. Or, there may be a pest or disease issue there. Also, by now it is a bit late in the spring to be planting grass so you may want to overseed for now and then lay sod in September. Your county extension should be able to help you with planning how to do this, also. Good luck with your patching! |
