| do i need a liner in my concrete pot before planting flower, I was told that i have to empty the flower and dirt out when winter come and cover my pot with plastic or stored them inside and what kind of flower that would be nice the pot is in the front of my house and get lot of sun in the morning from the east. thank you |
| It is usually a good idea to empty the concrete pots and protect them during the winter so they do not crack or chip along the edges due to freezing. You can hide a slightly smaller plastic nursery pot inside the concrete pot, or you can plant directly in the concrete pot if it has drain holes in the bottom to allow excess water to escape. What plants to use would depend partly on how large or small the pot is adnn what look you have in mind. There are many different plants you could select. I would recommend annuals such as impatiens or fibrous rooted begonias if it is sunny early in the morning only. If it is sunny up to and including the hour of noon for a total of six hours or more, you might try petunias, geraniums, salvia, marigolds or sun coleus. Also use a good quality soilless potting mix formulated for container planting. Your local nursery staff should be able to help you decide how many plants to use and which ones would be best for the size container you have. Enjoy! |
