How can I begin my windowsill herb garden project now?
I have the window, shelves, and pots, but no soil or seeds.
Please suggest next step.

All you need to grow herbs are a bright spot, some fresh seeds and some potting mix. Purchase some potting soil, moisten it, fill the pots up about 2/3 full and plant the seeds about twice the depth as the seed is wide. Water well, cover with plastic wrap to help keep in the moisture, and place the pots in a warm area until the seeds germinate. Once they've started to sprout, remove the plastic, place the pots in a sunny window, and make sure to water when the soil begins to dry on top.

You can plant basil, rosemary, chives, thyme, parsley - you name it! In the summer you can take the herbs outside and plant in a sunny location.

Good luck with your new garden!
