I BOUGHT A QUEENS PALM, DUG A HOLE AND HIT A BURIED ALSPHALT AND CEMENT DRIVEWAY. CAN I PLANT THIS PALM ON TOP OF THIS CEMENT IF I HAVE ABOUT 10 INCHES OF MUD AROUND IT OR WILL THE ROOT JUST DIE? THE ROOT WILL NEED TO GROW OUTWARD NOT DOWNWARD AS THE CEMENT WILL STOP IT. SHOULD I DRILL OUT A 14 INCH HOLE THROUGH THE CEMENT AND WILL THIS TAKE CARE OF MY PROBLEM? |
Palms typically have a narrow, deep root system and if your new palm cannot grow down into the soil it won't be adequately anchored. As it grows taller, it may topple over. I'd suggest finding a more suitable site for your palm - drilling a hole would be quite labor-intensive because it would have to be several feet in diameter. Best wishes with your new palm@ |
