All weed and other existing vegetation should be killed with an herbicide such as Round-Up to ensure no undesirable growth develops with the new sod. After the initial spraying, wait seven days and respray any vegetation that shows normal growth. After three or more days following the second spraying, remove the dead and dying vegetation. There will be a waiting period (check the label) after your last application application and before you lay the sod.
