This spring I bought a rouge cardinal clematis from Tagawa's nursery for $29.99 with your label. I wanted a red color. It's growing very well. However, much to my dismay and surprize, it's a deep pink- purple color, not even close to red. Why? All the labels were intact-no tampering. I'm puzzled by this. I don't wish to pull it out because it's so healthy. And actually the color is my favorite-I have much in this color. However, I did want red in this particular spot. Explain, please! Thanks, hjoan

'Rouge Cardinal' has large, velvety crimson colored flowers with beige anthers. This one flowers with great profusion over a long period of time: in May-June, and again in July August. I'm not sure a deep-pink purple is 'Rouge Cardinal'. I'm glad you like the flower color, though. Why not keep it and see if the flowers don't change a bit in color as the plant ages?
