The Q&A Archives: dwarf coral bark maple?

Question: Is there a dwarf coral bark maple. I like this tree but need to keep it to about 10 ft tall and about 8 ft. wide.

Answer: Coral bark maple tends to be a small tree, especially with annual pruning. You can keep the tree small by pruning in the winter and then periodically throughout the summer months. I have one that I've kept barely 5 feet tall and three feet wide over the past 15 years and it looks terrific. I prune it back in the winter when I can see the branch structure and then again in the summer to remove some of the new branches and foliage.
